Things to do…

Views with breakfast

Breakfast includes stunning mountain and forest views on our sunny deck. Freshly prepared food from our garden and nearby farmers. The native birds love our garden and our alpacas often sit near the table as you eat. Connect to our wifi to plan your day. We’ll share our favourite local spots.

Luxuriate in your outdoor tub

Wood fired tubs are a great way to slow down. It takes an hour or more to heat it fully which requires guests to chill out. Breathe, observe, listen… take it all in…

Play with the alpacas

Our alpacas are friendly and enjoy walks/interactions with guests. Spend as much time as you like with them…become a herd member. We usually have a couple of cria (babies) skipping around which makes for some great photo opps. Help us wrangle and train our young alpacas if you like.

Hike, fish or ride

Enjoy many short bush hikes at the property. Some lead to untouched waterfalls (3-4 hours return). Or, for a full day of walking, take the Kill Devil Track challenge which starts right from your door. Historic 100 year old huts and the bluest river you’ve ever seen are the rewards for the truly intrepid (15km one way). Amazing trail running.

Bring or hire a mountain bike if you want a bit more adrenaline. A river runs nearby which can be fished.

Focus on Yourself

Take the cold plunge challenge! Cool off in our mountain stream dipping pool. Or spend time by the creek reading a good book in the hammock. Reconnect with nature. Our native birds (binoculars provided) are on another level…not to mention our very friendly chickens and ducks.

Organic and bio-diversity tour

For all accommodation guests - we are happy to provide a free tour of the property showing how we harness our own power and water. As well as the bio-diversity techniques we use to manage the property.

So much more…

  • We have glow worms & truly amazing star gazing

  • A crystal clear creek with paddling pool (conditions permitting)

  • Fresh honey from our own bees

  • Wild weka, more-pork, pigs, deer, and goats can be spotted during hikes

  • Very pretty on site bush/forest walks

  • Ask us about local attractions, eating, cafes…we’re happy to share local secret spots and tips

  • Kayaking/horse riding available near Takaka

  • Visit incredible caves and rock formations nearby

  • Bring your rock climbing gear

  • Incredible Milnthorpe forest, Te Waikoropupu springs, Langford Store, Mussel Inn, The Spit…the list goes on…

  • Ask us about Golden Bay. We’ve lived all over NZ but this region beats them all in terms of being geologically and historically unique.

So much more than initially meets the eye… there’s very good reasons why so much of ‘The Lord of the Rings’ was filmed here.

It would be easy to assume that a couple of nights is enough (because the township is small) but its the hills, rivers and valleys that make Golden Bay so special. And of course the beaches - its common to unexpectedly run into sea-life, such as seals basking in the sun.
